Because I am someone who isn’t very fond of heights, I was quite happy when they started installing roof anchors on the roof peaks a few years ago for Fall protection. My only question is how you get up the steep pitch to the peak of the roof and connect to the anchor before you Fall? Our 7-month old pup Maggi was taking me for a walk through the river valley the other day. We were walking down a narrow gravel path, enjoying the beautiful Fall day. All of the sudden I heard a loud rumbling behind us and we barely got out of the way in time as a young man zipped by on his bike. Moments later I heard a crash and saw the poor fellow lying on the ground after a Fall. I asked him if he was alright and he said yeah, I’m ok, I always Fall, it’s the fifth time today and I’m going for seven. I just hope he doesn’t become a roofer. Despite what the department stores are trying to tell you, Christmas is not around the corner, Fall has just started. The leaves are changing color and the hordes of bird-size mosquitoes are gone. Of course, there is also a downside, as with the exception of this last weekend, the temperatures are starting to Fall. There isn’t a lot of time left for many large outdoor maintenance projects, but because its only early Fall, there should be more than enough time to get your properties ready for winter. Early Fall is an excellent time to complete those exterior painting projects, along with caulking any gaps around windows, doors and other building penetrations. Fall also a great time to check the weather-stripping around the windows and doors. Having the roof checked, along with cleaning the eavestroughs may save on aggravation, especially with the large amounts of snow that are forecast for the season after Fall. Fall is also a great time to have your Reserve Fund Study done by Delta Appraisal.
